How it all started…

Sable is a game we started as a 2-person studio, out of my parent’s shed. Since then, the team has grown and fluctuated over time and we’ve brought in collaborators to support us making the game, without whom the game would not exist. It’s been a long journey, and one we’ve been grateful to have people join us on.

Sable

Throughout the game’s development, we’ve been inspired by all sorts of art and media, from artists such as Moebius, the animation of Studio Ghibli and architects like Carlo Scarpa, the Metabolists, and Archigram. We’ve tried to apply this inspiration in a way that hopefully evokes a unique and captivating world for you to explore.

There is no wrong path.

Sable is a game about exploration, a game where we encourage you to play without a preconceived plan or direction but to let the sweep of the dunes gently guide your journey. If you see something interesting, divert your original path. If you think you’ve encountered something “before you’re supposed to,” we encourage it. It can be a slow-paced game at times, designed to allow you to take a moment to soak in the soundscape crafted by Japanese Breakfast and Martin Kvale and the general atmosphere of different places you visit.

Masks

The primary goal is to collect Masks on your Gliding, a rite of passage taken by everyone as they mature into adulthood. There are several locations where you can meet an array of characters who can help you gather masks, it’s worth taking your time to speak to them and find out their stories too.

Simoon

You’ll be journeying with a travelling companion, Simoon – a hoverbike gifted to Sable by her clan for the duration of her Gliding. Simoon will transport you across the world, but as a player you will also be able to customise how the bike looks, feels, and sounds to your own tastes, unlocking new parts and colour palettes on your adventure.

Where will your Gliding take you?

We’re excited to see which directions your Glidings take you, what parts of the world resonate with you and your reactions to the game we’ve made. Sable is available today for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10, and with Xbox Game Pass.
